Status Description:

NGO public image campaign: This activity had been completed by end of June by the local consultants Domus pvt. ltd. The main recommendation- to build an online portal for CSOs- is currently being worked on. The ToR for the development of the portal is currently being drafted.
NGO Portal/ directory: The development of an NGO directory is an activity budgeted for 2011. However, the concept had been further refined through the NGO public image campaign to expand this into an interactive portal for multiple stakeholders of the civil society (donors, govt. agencies, volunteers, etc.), and provides space for NGOs to interact with these different groups as well as each other. A ToR for this concept is currently being developed.
Redrafting of the Associations Act: Consultant for this activity had been hired October 2011. Stakeholder consultantions had been conducted with NGOs operating in 8 islands in Laamu and Thaa, as well as 9 national level NGOs. The first draft had been submitted to MoHA, and is currently being revised according to policy level recommendations. A second, larger stakeholder consultation had been planned for 25 December. The consultancy had been extended by a month, to be completed in January 15.
Some activities require consultants to be hired. Inability to find the required level of expertise may delay these activities.
Some activities, such as supporting public policy forums will be lead by NGOs, and hence, depends heavily on the level of initiative from NGOs.
